Did you meet your goals?

Well, i think i did meet my goals they were to see how real jobs are and to learn something from my internship and i did i learn a lot.

What are the most important things you’ve learned?

Well, i will have to say that now i feel more confident with myself and talking to others. i learn how to file and that really important to i think. and i learned how sectary really work, i used to think when they didn't call back it was because they didn't wanted to is that they are to busy.

In what ways have your grown?

I think i growth in my confident and also i a person learned how to see things in a different way.

What were the highlights of your internship experience?

It was a nice experience to have to see how work is to see how people treated you onces you started working and how people depend on you and you have to do something for them. And also how is working with nice people and also they mean ones.

If you can, describe a memorable moment or experience.

A memorable moment was when Jane and the other workers gave us gifts and mad our own party that was pretty sweet because like they don't do it for everyone and that was something really special. Also how they always thank us for helping them.

What challenges did you overcome?

Well, some Challenges i face where when they first come in i didn't know no one how what i was going to do or make a mistake. Also when they put me to file and i had no idea how they file in a Hospital but i learn how to overcome all of them and overcome my fear to ask questions to them.

What advice would you give a new intern at this site?

Well, to took out for Sr.Pat and to try their best with everything and always ask quetions when you don't get something.

What will you miss about your internship?

Well getting out of school early and to take only two class. but the most Jane and the people from the HR department : ( i will miss them a lot.

Her Full name is Jane Nez Vassil

2. Where are you from?

Well, she was born Here in New York ( Manhattans ). But Her originally from Greece's and her mother from Italy.

3. Where did you go to college? For how long? Do you plan to go back to school?

She attempted to Paze University and NYU in both Colleges made 4 years . Quote Jane say when she was ask if she plans in going back to school. "She is in university of life experience " which means that everyday she gets more experience from life .

Her major in college was business.

she have been working in St Vincent hospital Human Resources for thirteen years

Director Benefit in Human Resources Department.


7. What are some of the challenges you have faced working here?

Some of the challenges that she faces are that the department don't have best technological and they change the management all the times. And that she needs more stuff to help her.

8. What is the best part of your job?

The best part of her job is to get a chance to help others she has always been a people person and she love it. Gets a lot of rewards for what she does.

9. What is something you would like to change about your job?

Gain more help. Change the schedule flex her hours.

10. Do you enjoy the kind of work you do?

she does enjoy the the job because she is a people person.

11. How has having an intern helped your company or organization advance or progress?

Having intern helps was a big help to the whole department and took some pressure of some people made life a little better and easier to everyone.

12. What advice would you give to high school-aged interns (such as myself) getting ready for college and then the real world?

Always be true to yourself, and Always trust god. Always try to be the best at anything you do and do something you really want to do.

13. What do you see as your future with this company?

She just goes with the flow where god takes her. It don't matter if is there or somewhere else.

OLD: Something i always do is file papers and also this week i was working with the Terminated Files.

OLD: I was faxing and making copies and we made another folders for the new Employees.

NEW: Well i went all around the Basemen and went to the St. Vincent Bank.

NEW: I went to the Basemen and saw all the Terminated files of o4, o5 and 06.

New and Old tasks, projects or activities

OLD: Same old Things work with files and papers. Everything has to be with papers i think everything we touch is papers in there.

OLD: Making copies and Faxing. I learned to fax the 3 week and now we don't stop faxing boring. First you deal 9 and 1 and then the number you want to fax.

NEW: I learned how to E-mail papers and Tax for the copy machine. In the Office Machine it has all the workers E-mail and if you go to address book you will see it but first to go "Image sent"

NEW: I learned this week how to do a quick file from the Copy Machine. Is just when you have a lot of papers to copy and you don't want to lose the order. It will print everything at once not like 2 papers now and 10 later but all together in order.


Interview Thinking

-What do I know about this person?

Well I'm thinking on interviewing Jane or Escarlin [ which i think never will let me ].
Well what i know about Jane is that she is the Director of Human Resources and that she is really friendly and nice. Her father and Mother died well most of her family they are almost all gone ; { She don't have any kids only has a boyfriend. She is always busy and she used to take Spanish class like 27 years ago and that she was teacher. That she missed High School. She loves Dominican food and has go to D.R lots of times. She gives great advices.

Escarlin i don't know much but that she is Dominican and she is 30 and has two kids a girl that is 8 years old and a little boy that is 1 year old. She is the secretary of HR. They employees always come to her her office is always full with people. She has to work hard because she is a single mother. She is a very funny lady, nice and kind.

-What do I want to know about this person?

Well, anything really that they will want to tell me and get to know about them or their life.

Today i had to hear Sister Pat talking about when late and stuff MY GOD. When i got my the HR department Kermide was there as soon as i come Jane gave me some papers to scan is like e-mail it to her from the coping machine and then this lady give us files to look for that they are Terminated Employees and need to get out of the file room down to the first floor. But what a big surprise Jane come and take us to do like a big project into the conference room and they had a big surprise with food and gifts. It was so fun they were thanking us for all the help and giving us gifts and there was like more then 7 different cheese cake. It was so fun the best day of my Internship

Today i was making copies and faxing some papers , Also got the mail from the First floor and open it and stamp [ Same boring thing ]. Now before we go to our department we go get the mail and do the mail and after we see if anyone needs help. Also this two days i was making a lots of copies and fileing. Also help Paul with some resume he had to see and check [ Man this people write on their resume] Kind of got a look of how they do them.

Today as soon has a come in to the volunteer department i was all ready tired and bored. When i got to my department it was the same Jane was not in and Escarlin didn't have that much work so we only did little work because like we have done all the work they had and the only thing i did was get the mail and open they and making some copies of forms. But it was great today it was the only day that we got a chance to of a little break there [ They always have work ] and is all busy many people running around looking for things.This week on our hospital is the week of volunteer : ) i think that's kind of cool is our week : p

Something very funny happened in my mentor office Dargreeny is really scared of dog , So there was one in the office and she jump up and got really scared LOL! at lest something good happened it was so boring the whole time : (

Today i was working on fixing Emergency Contact Forms of 2004 , i was fixing them in a acorriences and we got more papers to files and we fixing them all. Today was kind of boring we just sat there fixing papers and today on of the ladies that talks to us about left. She is so nice and funny but she left ; ( Jane only talk to us a little tell us she was going to see the papa and that's really cool i wish can go to.

Today i was working mails the whole day, opening them and stamping them but i only stamp and open if they didn't have names. Also i was making some copies for Jane. I fax some papers from Jane and Escarlin. Today i was the whole day on the front with Escarlin, Yariza and Paul. It was really funny the were just making jokes and playing around. Ask me some questions and things.

Today i was done finding the Job Descriptions i was so happy that things get me sick. Today i made some copies and we to the mail room in the 1st floor to drop some in and out mails. I was also throwing away some personal information of people in a box [ after they take away and burn the] We were also filing some files Job Descriptions in accordience folder. But the last thing we were doing was Labeling the big drawers with the letters A-Z. Today Jane come back she look so sad , i felt really bad.

TodayI was working again with the 2007 Performance Appraisals. OH GOD ;* GOD I'M STATED TO HATE MY INTERNSHIP. Working with all those list of employee that need to be find, and everyday getting new list. GOD HELP me i can wait till this finish or internship [ not really i like more going to internship then to stay in school] We got like a list with three sheets of employee Job Description, Well we almost done we just need little more and that's feels good i just hope she don't give a new one GOD. Well also today i was making some copies of employee files. That Escarlin send me to do. Man this woman is the best she rocks she is so funny and nice. Oh i can wait to see Jane tomorrow she is coming back. She went away because her aunt die : (

How has the internship been the same as and/or different than your expectations?

Well, i expect my internship to be like everyone that does hours extra and then get days off but NO!. We did so many hours extra and we didn't get any day off, so we decisive to not make any more hours extra. Also i though we will be working with computers a lot and phone but not at all we did was worked with papers and even more papers.My expectations about internship has changed a lot. I used to think that it would be fun but now i figured that it is a really serious job and is really busy and boring : ( I will never never work on a office not even if they pay me 100 per hour and that's a lot. I though is we mad mistake it will not be really serious causes we just started working and we were supposed because we don't even know much about it and for one mistake we did Jane got really upset and kind of mad and it was another story with Sister pat i knew she was going be really serious but she past the limits OH MY GOD she talked about the day i was home sick but i called her and told and also that day with the trip to New Paltz. she say when you get a sheet which told her the days we were out and she saw that day we were supposed to be in and she got upset and call Sean. OH MY GOD ... she is really something!

What is similar and different about the culture of the school environment versus the workplace environment? What new skills have you learned that apply to the workplace?

They both have a very different and Similar thing. I will say in school you get more freedom then at the job. In school you are not always busy. In school and at my site we can work together. But in both really you can get really busy. But the environment are really the same some thing you really busy but something you get time to relax. I have learn a lots of knew things like filing papers that need different employee for different sections and also how to used more the coping machine and how to fax and more things that will be useful for me to know.

What kind of relationship do you have with your mentor and co-workers? How have you grown as a result of interacting with professional adults?

The kind of relationship that i have with my mentor is not really that great she gets on my nervous but i got to deal with it though : ) but my relationship with my co-workers is great they are all so friendly Jane , Jeniffer, Yariza and Escarlin they are the most friendly people i ever met the treat us like friends. Well i think i kind of grown little bit because i still little shy but i open up more though.

What challenges at the internship have you faced that you have overcome and how did you overcome them?

Well there were not that much challenges in my site we just work with papers. But one i did overcome was working with big file the lagers drawers, i got really confused because the numbers and the letters and some other thing had to be file different and they all needed to be in the same drawer but i got two work twice on this so now I'm pretty good. I ask questions can you believe me asking questions but i did and that's how i learn.

What challenges have you faced in school as a result of the altered schedule and how are you handling them?

When i come home late and then i have to do a lots of homework and projects and had to go to sleep really late doing my work. and teachers kept on giving us even more work.What i did was i stared doing some homeworks on the rain because it's a 45-50 minutes ride and i got them with half of them so then i had less at home and went to sleep early.

What goals are you working to accomplish during the remainder of the internship?

I really don't have any goals and this time expect to finish quick and to learn as much things as i can during the time i have and also to a lest used the computers and phone for once at the site.

What new things have you learned about New York City?

Not really much expect that I love York it rocks man, New York City is the best.
It's fun to walk down the streets of this city with all this white people and the dogs and Dargreeny running way for them she scare of them [ LOL]. But too many people smoke on the street and others are liking wearing no clothe i mean it's not summer YET!

Today was working again with the 2007 Performance Appraisals. OH GOD when will we finish this every time we are close to finish they give us a new list even with more employees. Two new list : ( Jennifer gave us. It was a very boring day today in internship, well also sad because we just found out Jane aunt die : ( that was something that really mad me sad because that was her only aunt from her mother said that was still alive and she was taking care of her and i think all her uncles and aunts from father side die. WoW that's really bad. She is not going be in for this week and next week.

Today was working again with the 2007 Performance Appraisals. We only found some of the names for the list so we had to keep looking for more. But also today i was faxing some papers for Jane and Escralin. I hate looking for all those papers there is more then 800 files and we have to look for one person from all this OH MY GOD. This is one thing i hate the most for my job. : (

For the past two days i being working on 2007 performance Appraisals ( Job Description). Jane gave of a list for 55 people Job Description that were missing. There were like 6 expanding flooder from A to Z & some paper where not in there they were on some other place. We had to look throght so many paper to find one person but on the first day we didn't find anything. But next day Jennifer gave us another list with more hen 30 more people but from her list we found some people Man this two day were so boring.

Today it was so boring oh my god : [. I was making more copies of the new employed menu. After we come to work there we have make so many copies that the printer got mess up [ LOL]. After making like 30 new employed menu like with 10 sheets each menu. Trying to fix the machine but it still mess up in got some paper stuck in the machine. So we had to go in another office to finish the menu's. Jennifer come and ask us if we want something to eat. She always ask us but we say no. But today Kermide say yea it was so funny. We were also filing Jane papers today but we didn't do it all because is like more then 200 sheets that needed to be file.

Today I was working with something new called requisition were we had to coordinate the Document of different patient information. Requisition are a formal written request for something needed a paper that has the patient information.This is request when you get hire. We were working with those paper the whole 3 1/2 it was kind of hard because we had to take out all patients records and look for their requisition and put them in ordered. The ones that have the same Unit/Function. We were checking all the Unit/Function records. It got kind of boring because the table was full with paper i thought we were never going to finish.

Today i was filing some papers and making copies and i fax some papers for Jane. I learned how to fax papers not today it was like 2 weeks ago. Just a normal day at my site. After we finish we got to take some pictures with our Co-worker and Jane. It was Escralin and Jane. Jennifer and the other secretive say the look ugly today for pictures. We took Some pictures more to come on Monday.

Today I was making a lots of copies .I don't even know how much it was like more then 5,000 copies of papers for New employees. Also Mr. Andrew come in to check our Internship to see how we doing [ But he didn't tell else nothing ; [ ] He ask Kermide a question of the Elevator " Why didn't have the 13 floor?" and me and Kermide when to Jennifer and ask her and she say it because it was bad luck and also that it closed and replaced by the 14 floor. I didn't even notices it didn't have the 13 floor till Mr. Andrew ask [ good eyes Mr. Andrew]

Today We were working on a new office [ We were working their because the women left for vacations ]. We were working with Microfiche. Microfiche are a flat sheet of microfilm in a form suitable for filing, typically measuring 4 by 6 in and containing microreproductions, as of printed or graphic matter, in a grid pattern. We have to put them in a small cabinet in older. Oh My God there were more then 400 Microfiche which we have to do. But we didn't finish it . it was so boring the room was so hot. Well we were listens to music and talking to it was ok after all.

Well my name is Giselle or Gissette whatever you like the best. I'm from Dominican Republic
[ Bonao ]. I'm 16 years old birth day is 10-10-91. I live with my mother and brother my father and my mother are not together anymore. I have only one brother he is 3 years old. He is so annoying oh my god. Well in my free time I'm on Myspace or outside. That's all i got now if you have any questions just ask ; ] .

-What did you learn in the junior internship seminar class up to this point?

Well till this point in my Junior Internship Seminar Class i have learned how to write well resumes and also how to handle Interviews and Internships. I learned how to handle problems that you might have a your Internship site.

-What is your greatest fear about internship?

My greatest fear of Internship are is the people are really mean or if i don't get something and i do it wrong because i shy to ask again. My mentor wouldn't like me and fire me from the job.

-What is your greatest hope for the internship?

My greatest hope is that i will learn a lot of new things and that it will help me understand more what i want to become or just help me in life.

Well in my internship site what I'm going to be doing is working on a office , which i guess all i will do is work with papers and computer.

During the weeks that i have work in my Internship i haven't created much projects because in my internship all we do is working with files [which get so boring sometimes]. But there was one project that me and kermide had created during the second week. In which we had to created an menu for the New Employees of the St. Vincent's hospital. It was a Menu that gave new employees information of the hospital and also paper work that they had to fill out. For the Hospital to have information of them like the Emergency contact things like that. Paper that the hospital needs information of to put all into the computer. We had to created 135 Menu .That had all the papers in order and also that none were missing nothing. This menu was require for the next week where the new employees had a meeting to get everything fill out and get information of the hospital. It was almost like the folder we get when we were Volunteer for the Hospital.

What i did during this second week was almost the same as the first week of internship. I was fixing files and making new ones two.

Something i really like about internship is that my Co-Worker Jane Vassil is really nice and the whole floor i work for and also that there are many cute doctors.

Sometime i really dislike my Mentor that women is always picking on me. Always finding something wrong on me { when is not my hair is my clothes} oh my god and is only me she picks on. But most of the time she is very nice.

My mentor name is sister Patricia. she is a very funny women. She is very kind and caring that wants the best for me , Dargreeny and Kerdime. she is a very serious women that wants us to learned from her how to be a great employed and how to become great women in the future. she wants us to have the greats experiences of internship and to get awards in the award ceremony of Volunteer in April.


⇒ What happened on the first day?⇐

First i was working with Kerdime making copies. after Yaritza given me files, that i need to put in older [ filling papers of employed of Saint Vincent Hospital ]

⇒ What kinds of things have you done so far?⇐

Things i done so far in my internship are making files, copies, making folders and also making a menu books.

⇒What were some of the highlights of the first week? (Memorable moments, cool things...)⇐

So far, I've done a lot of office work, i melt a lot of important people you might want to know if you wanna get height in the Hospital. The first week at the end we got gifts from Jane Vassil [ me & Kermide ] . Me Kermide work together so we help each other when we can. We got very nice people we work for a whole floor that is called " Human Resources". There many friendly people and one of my favorite is Jane, Yarilza and Dimitry.

I leave school at 11:35 - 11:45

⇒ How long does it take you to get to your internship?⇐

It takes like 50-60 minutes to get there.

⇒ When do you arrive at home?⇐

I Arrive home like around 5:45-6:10

⇒What is your schedule? (What days do you work and for how long each day?)⇐

My schedule says i have to work from Monday- Thursday from 1:30 - 4:30

⇒Who are the two people that can sign your time card? (Your mentor and the additional person)⇐

Two people that can sign my time card are sister patricia and Jane Vassil.
